Variety is the Spice of Life - Not Anymore...
Variety is Not the Spice of Life Anymore....
Variety us the Spice of Life has become meaningless as worldwide there are several products that do the same job. A few years ago people in several countries had the option of getting Cow's milk only but now Once can easily get at least four to five different brands of Milk now. The same applies to clothes, computers, Cell Phones, Beers, Vacations etc.
If you need a cough syrup now there are at least 5 different brands and the generic one. The consumer does not read the labels of the manufacturer/s. The generic and the brand name could have come from the same place. The main purpose of the cough being suppressed is sidelined for brand recognition.
Gone are the days when a consumer could go to his/her neighborhood Mom and Pop store to get a cookie. many Mom and Pops have vanished due to big chain stores. Now it's all in the Supermarkets and with so many varieties the shopper has much more work to do instead of walking out of the door in a few short minutes. Rice used to be a few varieties such as Par boiled Rice, Raw Rice and Hand pounded rice. These days you have Several varieties of rice packaged in very colorful and attractive bags. Most of the people go for the cheapest rather than the content and quality. Where can you buy groceries that have the least amount of packaging anymore? The few places that you can buy are some of the health stores that are little big.
The mode of selection has narrowed down to Price and not the quality. How many shoppers are reading the labels, how many care if a food item is processed or not? How many care if the packaging is too much and still buy it because it is cheap.
Choice is good but how many are feeling the pain of checking the reviews etc before making the final decision. This buyer review has worked in big ticket items such as electronics, automobiles, computers, etc. Social Sites such as Yelp have helped several restaurants to increase the choices for consumers. Finally, Variety can still be Spice of Life if the choices are limited and people pick the best.
